The Community Schools Collaboration after-school program had a young soccer player identified and invited to join the Washington Youth Soccer Elite Player Development (EPD) program. Alicia Bennett, Program Director of CSC at Showalter Middle School spoke highly of her team and the young players in the soccer program coached throughout the school year by Starfire Sports staff. Development in all aspects of child’s life is key and this after-school tutoring program is designed to do just that. Kids are invited to participate in a variety of outside activities once their homework is completed. The soccer program partnership at Starfire Sports is one of many programs offered by CSC for middle school students within the Tukwila School District.
Matyes Getachew was invited by Darren Sawatzky, Director of Youth Development with Sounders FC and the EPD program to come out and participate in the NW Invitational program held in late May at the Starfire Sports Campus. Matyes played with kids a year older and did a great job. Look for Matyes on the pitch some day!
