Sounders FC 1, UW 0 in Friendly Scrimmage

Apr 21 By Starfire Sports

The Sounders and University of Washington played to a 1-0 result in a scrimmage today at Starfire. What appeared to be a mismatch on paper remained a tightly contested game until about midway through the second 30-minute half when Fredy Montero scored the game’s only goal on a low-driven shot from the top of the penalty box. Montero was among many other familiar Sounders names as the team looked to stay sharp during a bye week for them in the MLS. Even with most of the Sounders’ starting lineup playing, UW held firm in defense and even possessed the ball at times, getting a few chances on goal of their own. The final whistle left both teams looking slightly disappointed, UW for coming so close to an unexpected draw and the Sounders for not putting more balls in the back of the net.

Another 5-0 Victory for Sounders Women

Apr 14 By Starfire Sports

Another great fan showing as the Sounders Women took home a second straight 5-0 victory tonight. Seattle University came out strong, keeping the Sounders Women scoreless for most of the first half, but gave up three quick goals. A big standout this game was Sydney Leroux, making her scoring debut for the Sounders women, and ending the game with a hat trick.

TOPSoccer at Starfire featured on Eric’s Little Heroes

Jan 25 By Starfire Sports

Last night TOPSoccer, The Outreach Program for Soccer, was highlighted on Komo’s Eric’s Little Heroes program, featuring video shot right here at Starfire.

TOPSoccer, a Starfire Outreach Partner, is a community- based training program for differently abled players four years of age and older, who have a cognitive and/or physical disability. The program is designed to give its participants a chance to compete and have fun with athletics, an opportunity that hasn’t always been readily available.

Starfire Sports donates field time to the TOPSoccer program and other events. “We really appreciate Starfire’s support of the TOPSoccer program,” Program Coordinator, Alice Russell said.

Starfire Sports is proud to partner with TOPSoccer, and many other charitable programs to help children achieve their soccer dreams.

Aug 31 By Starfire Sports

The Sounders FC walked away with yet another win in tonight’s US Open Cup Semifinals match against FC Dallas. A fantastic left-footed goal by Fredy Montero in the 40th minute was the first and only goal of the match. A few scares came from FC Dallas late in the game, but the Sounders were able to maintain their lead and clinch the win.

Next up, the Sounders will face the Chicago Fire as they vie for their third straight US Open Cup trophy.

2011 XTREME Cup: Great Soccer & Over $5000 Raised For Water Crisis

Aug 18 By Starfire Sports

The 2011 Starfire XTREME Cup delivered more than just great soccer. This year, the tournament also helped raise awareness among youth soccer players about a crisis that kills more people than all forms of violence, including war. The crisis is the lack of access to clean, safe water, and it affects nearly one billion people.

Along with the soccer champions in our midst over the weekend, we had youth players that were champions of this important global cause. The highest earning team, Stingrays BU15s, collected over $200 and even contributed their own money. Together with participating teams, we were able to raise over $5,000, which is enough to build a well for an entire village. Visit our campaign page to see all the donations that were made.

If you would like to receive updates on the progress of our well project, click here.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s tournament and got involved in supporting the great cause of providing clean water to those in need. Get a complete list of game results or let us know how we did by filling out our 2011 XTREME Cup tournament survey.
