Our Story

Our Story

Co-founders Chris Slatt, Steve Beck, and Mark Bickham launched Starfire Sports in 2003 with a powerful vision to combine inclusiveness with access to world-class facilities, creating a place where everyone could participate, regardless of race, religion, social background, or ability. Part of their motivation was to address the high cost of youth soccer, which had become a barrier for too many kids. They imagined a place where young people could learn teamwork, honesty, and integrity—where they’d be inspired to grow, stay engaged, and thrive on and off the field.

Today, Starfire is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social enterprise actively builds and leverages partnerships with other organizations dedicated to enriching the lives of South King County’s children and their families. With the help of our partners, we will continue to expand our reach and program offerings to impact as many families as possible. Our campus welcomes 1.3 million visits each year for:

  • Youth & adult soccer classes, beginning with players as young as 18 months
  • STEM Academy for Pre-K-6th grade, offering inclusive access to STEM learning
  • 35+ athletic tournaments & jamborees annually for youth and adults
  • Training & games for youth, amateur, and professional teams including Seattle Reign FC, Tacoma Defiance and Seattle Seawolves rugby
