TOPSoccer, a Starfire Outreach Partner, is a community- based training program for differently abled players four years of age and older, who have a cognitive and/or physical disability. The program is designed to give its participants a chance to compete and have fun with athletics, an opportunity that hasn’t always been readily available.

Starfire Sports donates field time to the TOPSoccer program and other events. “We really appreciate Starfire’s support of the TOPSoccer program,” Program Coordinator, Alice Russell said.

Providing soccer opportunities is part of what makes Starfire Sports unique and by providing soccer gear to those without is one simple way to achieve this goal.   By offering soccer gear collection sites at Soccer West stores in Factoria and Federal Way, together we are serving kids throughout our community. 

Over the last 5 years, Starfire Sports and Soccer West have collected and distributed thousands of gently worn cleats, shin guards, t-shirt jerseys, shorts, and soccer balls to kids throughout our community and beyond.  Serving kids locally first, we have been able to provide additional equipment donations to youth in Uganda, Somalia, Ghana, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Southern Kenya and other destinations through humanitarian effort and organization who have roots in Seattle. 

If you would like to help with these efforts, please drop off your gently worn soccer gear at any of the Soccer West collection sites or at Starfire Sports.  Thank you, it’s for the kids!

Joined by several local restaurants, everyone was able to sample Mad Pizza, Panera Bread, Old Spaghetti Factory, Buca di Beppo, and Cafe Sienna products.  Washington Youth Soccer and Community Health Care joined us with fun give aways for every child who visited their booth.

The kids were excited to learn from Taylor about diversity and fitness in soccer and join him in an 8v8 soccer scrimmage at the end of the event.

Matyes Getachew was invited by Darren Sawatzky, Director of Youth Development with Sounders FC and the EPD program to come out and participate in the NW Invitational program held in late May at the Starfire Sports Campus.  Matyes played with kids a year older and did a great job.  Look for Matyes on the pitch some day!

Come join us on Wednesday, August 10th at the Shooting Stars FREE community soccer event for youth ages 6 -18 years old.  3v3 jamboree-style soccer will be played from 10am-3pm in this festival setting.  NO soccer experience required. Free entertainment and food for everyone.

All participants will receive a goody bag, t-shirt uniform and a raffle tickets with a chance to win Sounders gear, local restaurant gift certificates and many other wonderful prizes.  And don’t miss your chance to meet a Sounders FC player!

• Games begin at 10am
• 3 games guaranteed
• ALL skill levels welcome – no soccer experience necessary
• Sign up as an individual or a team (all participants must register)
• Teams must be co-ed with a minimum of 5 players (at least 2 from each gender)
• Registration deadline is August 4th, 2011

In addition to the standard regional competition, Special Olympics held the first ever Cascadia Championship Series between a select Unified team representing the Seattle Sounders FC who faced off against the Portland Timbers Unified team.  Special Olympics teams were invited to join the Sounders FC at their game versus the Portland Timbers later that night at Qwest Field. 

A big thank you to the Northshore Kiwanis who provided 450 lunches for all of the athletes, coaches and volunteers!   

Starfire Sports supports dozens of organizations like Street Soccer Seattle by providing program participation opportunities, field use and donated equipment.  Our partnerships help to deliver services to thousands of under-resourced youth in our community. 

David Nibley, President of Street Soccer Seattle presented the award at their Community Kick-off to bring awareness to the problem of homeless youth.  The event also helped to raise funds supporting the traveling soccer team who will head to Washington D.C. to compete in the annual Street Soccer USA Cup.
